Shirley Temple was born in Santa Monica in the US state of California. She was particularly noted for her professionalism. At the age of three she already took singing and dancing lessons, she always knew her lyrics and dance steps by heart and could cry convincingly on command. Most of her films were characterized by the great optimism with which Temple solved problems and ended quarrels. The films were mostly edits of well-known children's stories. From 1958 to 1961 she was briefly seen in unsuccessful television series. From the 1960s she became involved with the Republican Party. From 1969 to 1970, she was the United States delegate to the United Nations. She was the American ambassador to Ghana (1974-1976) and Czechoslovakia (1989-1992).
