Nandita Das
In 2008, Nandita Das turned to filmmaking with Firaaq in which she described the dramatic consequences of the violence in Gujarat in 2002. Screened in many international festivals, the film garners several awards.
In 2008, she is made Knight of Arts and Letters. Moreover, from 2009 to 2012, she is president of the Children's Film Society, India, an organization founded in 1955 and responsible for producing films for children.
Nandita Das is the daughter of the painter Jatin Das and the writer Varsha Das. She is educated in New Delhi and has a degree in geography and social work. From 2002 to 2009, she was married to Saumya Sen, with whom she founded Leapfrog, an agency that produces socially responsible commercials. After divorcing, she married the industrialist Subodh Maskara with whom she has a son, Vihaan, born in 2011.
At the Cannes Film Festival, Nandita Das is a member of the Feature Film Jury in 2005 and of the Cinefondation and Short Films in 2013. She is also a member of the Jury at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2007, and at the International Film Festival. of the Marrakech film in 2009. In 2015 she is part of the international jury of the International Film Festival of San Sebastián 2015.
