Suraiya
Suraiya Jamaal Sheikh known Suraiya (Urdu:ثریا) (born 15 June 1929 - died 31 January 2004) was an Indian singer and actress from the 40's and 50's of the nineteenth century, and was a popular actress and singer among the subcontinent. She was given the honorary title of Malika-e-Tarannum (Urdu: ملکہ ترنم, English: the queen of melody) and was later given the title of her name, Noor Jehan.
Early life: Suraiya was born in Gujranwala, Punjab, the owner of a small furniture shop. Later, her father converted to Lahore.
Personal life: Suraiya was emotionally involved with actor Dev Anand. They worked in six films from 1948 to 1951 in their partnership. Suraiya was declared the first Melody Queen of the subcontinent, and later Nur Jihan was given the name.
Honors and recognition: On May 3, 2013, she honored with published of her picture on a postal stamp of India.
Last years and death: Suraiya lived in the Krishna Maratha Drive in Mumbai in the year 2004 until her death in cancer at the age of 74 in Mumbai.
