Preity Zinta (Himachal Pradesh, January 31, 1975) is an Indian film actress. She appears in Bollywood and Telugu, Panjabi and English languages films. After graduating with a degree in Criminal Psychology, she debuted in "Dil Se" in 1998 and in "Soldier". She has won a Filmfare Award for Best Actress and was recognized for her role as a single mother in "Kya Kehna" (2000). She has played many roles and has changed the idea of heroin in Bollywood.

Youth
She was born into a Rajput Hindu family from Rohru in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Zinta loses her father Durganand Zinta, an Indian Army officer in a car accident when she was only 13 years old, her mother, Nilprabha, also involved in the accident, who was seriously injured and, consequently, remained in bed for two years. Zinta said that the crash was the turning point in her life that made her mature as a person. She has two brothers - Deepankar and Manish.
