The novel was awarded the Glass Key Award in 2006, the Boeke Prize in 2008, the Galaxy British Book Awards in 2009 and the Anthony Award. Posthumously, Larsson received the ITV3 Crime Thriller Award.
The book was filmed twice. The first film was shot by Niels Arden Oplev in 2009 in Sweden. The main roles were played by Michael Nykvist and Numi Rapas. In 2011, the American film adaptation of director David Fincher was released, the main roles in which were played by Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.
According to his own words, the images created by Astrid Lindgren were inspired to create the main characters of the books of Larsson. The prototype of Salander is Peppy Longstocking. In the original version of the book, Lisbet is red, and a sign on the door of the apartment is Lisbeth Salander at Fiskargatan 9, says V. Kula.
