Ghulam Ali
Ustad Ghulam Ali (5 December, 1940), the British Indian province of Punjab, Sialkot, Pakistan-born and Patiala Gharana famous ghazal singer. He is the famous classical singer of India and Pakistan.
He is one of the greatest ghazal singers of his time. Ghulam Ali, with exceptional talent, brought many variations in his ghazals and songs. Together with Ghazal, and combination of Hindustani classical music brought him to the top of any other Ghazal singer. He has got wide popularity in many South Asian countries with Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Nepal. He is also very liked in the United States, UK and Middle East countries. Many of his famous ghazals are included in Bollywood movies. His popular songs are - Chupke Chupke Raat Din, Kal Chaudhvin Ki Raat Thi, Hungama hai kyo barpa, Main Nazar Se Pee Raha Hoon, ye Dil ye Pagal Dil Mera (Awargi). GIMA 2014 was nominated for his latest album Hasratein in the Best Gazelle Album section.
Childhood
Ghulam Ali's father was a great fan of elder Ghulam Ali Khan. Big Khan used to live in Lahore, British India. The result of his love was that he named his son 'Ghulam Ali'. He also was a singer and singing in addition to guitar he played well, so Ghulam Ali obtained his primary education from his father.
Ghulam Ali met with Mr. Ghulam Ghulam Ali Khan during his music education. The elder Khan was on a visit to Kabul, where Ghulam Ali's father accompanied him along with the elder Mr. Khan, and requested that he should take his son to his pride. However, Khan Sahib said that because he is in the city for a short time, regular training will not be possible. After the insistence, after all, Mr. Big Khan Sahib asked young Ghulam Ali to sing something. Ghulam Ali sings, "Premi Mat Bano". When he finished the song, Khan embraced him and took him to his studio. Later, due to the involvement of Big Khan Sahib, three of his brothers, teacher Briat Ali Khan, Teacher Mubarak Ali Khan and Amant Ali Khan trained Ghulam Ali in Lahore.
Career
Ghulam Ali started singing for Radio Pakistan, Lahore in 1960. He also compile their lyrics. Their lyrics are based on the rug and sometimes it has different colors. He is well known to match family-music with lyrics that touch the audience's heart. Despite being from Pakistan, Ghulam Ali is also very popular in India. He has also made a joint album with Asha Bhosle.
Assessment
He commented on Pakistani pop groups that, "Indeed, they are shocked to see their type of song. They can sing on stage, jump, and do physical exercises. The stage means displaying music and not exercising."
One of his most memorable musicals was arranged in the Taj Mahal. When asked about the possibility of future ghazal singers, he said that he is enjoying Aditya Srinivasan's ghazal in Bengaluru in 2012.
Awards
In 1979, he was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan. In 2012, he received the Sitar-e-Imtiaz Prize.
In February, 2013, he became the first person to receive Gulam Ali Khan Award. In this context, he commented that I am grateful to the Indian government for nomination for this award. The prize given after the name of my Guru will be recognized as the best prize in my life.
Controversy
His concert was canceled in 2015 by the Shiv Sena's demonstration in Mumbai. Following the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav invited him again to visit India. Then he performed songs in Lucknow, New Delhi, Trivandrum and Kozhikode.
In a statement published in the daily newspaper in 2015, it is learned that in the future, he will no longer perform music in India. Because of this, he does not want to be used as a political tool.
