The Tower of Shanghai (Shanghai Tower) is a skyscraper located in the district of Pudong in Shanghai, China. The building rises 632 meters above the ground, with 128 floors and an area of 420,000 m². Currently is the tallest building in China and 2 tallest skyscraper in the world, only being surpassed by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

District: The planning models for the financial district of Lujiazui date back to 1993, and show the plans of three large skyscrapers side by side. These buildings have already been built, the Jin Mao building, which was completed in 1998, the Shanghai World Financial Center in 2008, and the Shanghai Tower in 2015.

Competition: After the numerous designs that were presented by various architecture studios, two design proposals reached the final in early 2008, both 580 meters high. Gensler's innovative design was chosen in June 2008, in which structure rotates as it rises and is also surrounded by an outer glass wall.

Design: The tower is organized in the form of nine cylindrical buildings stacked on top of each other, covered by a glass facade. Between that and the outer layer, which rotates as it rises, nine interior gardens at different levels are the public space for residents of Shanghai. It also has spaces to hold events at the base of the tower. It has the highest unobserved observation platform in the world.

Gensler's design director, Marshall Strabala, said on E-Architect.co.uk (an architecture news website) that the Shanghai Tower would represent "China's dynamic future." It would be an impressive building in which both This lively and changing metropolis, as in the rest of the country, looks to the future, there would be no other tower so unique and well conceived in the world."

Sustainability: The design of the glass façade is described as being able to reduce wind loads in the building by 24%, that is, fewer construction materials were needed, and the spiral feature collects the rainwater used for the wind. Air conditioning of the tower and heating systems. Wind turbines generate energy for the building. According to E-Architect.co.uk, is the first mega-skyscraper (600 meters or higher), with double "skin" in the world, acting as a "thermos", says Strabala, which allows to isolate and save energy.

The owners of the Shanghai Tower hope that in the future they will be awarded the certifications of the Green Building Commission of China and the USA. UU for the sustainable design of the building.

Construction: During 2008, the site was prepared for construction, and the ceremony gave way to the start of construction was held on November 29, 2008. The tower has passed an environmental impact assessment. The construction of the tower used sustainable techniques to make the building more pleasant with the environment and reduce the use of energy.

The current block assigned to the Shanghai Tower, Z3-2, was for a short time a driving range, before the site was cleared for preparation.

The structure of the building was completed in 2014 and was inaugurated in 2015. It is a resistant earthquake building capable of withstanding an earthquake of even 9 degrees or more as part of the innovative and technological engineering and Chinese architecture.

"Shanghai Tower" is at the 4th Position in this list.
