1. Mahabharat
The Mahabharata is the name of a TV serial produced by B.R. Chopra and directed by his son Ravi Chopra. It was a serial based on Indian mythology called Mahabharata and was one of the world's most watched serials.
2. Malgudi Days
In the 80's, the Indian Information and Broadcasting Ministry invited many independent producers and directors to make television serials. Malgudi Days, based on the work of RK Narayan, was one of those serials which became very popular and had a profound effect on children of that era.

Ramayana is a very successful Indian TV series, which was created, written and directed by Ramanand Sagar. This series of 78 episodes was broadcast on Doordarshan from January 25, 1987 to 31 July, 1988 at 9:30 am on every Sunday.
Byomkesh Bakshi is the Hindi TV serial based on the Byomkesh Bakshi character created by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. Byomkesh Bakshi is a Bengali detective fiction created by Sharad Bandu Bandhyopadhyay. Its composition is inspired by the great literary detective Sherlock Holmes, composed by Arthur Conan Doyle.
5. Alif Laila
Alif Laila is an Indian television series based on the story of Arabian Nights. Sagar Films build it. Due to the widespread popularity, the series started broadcasting in Bangladesh also in BTV and Ekushey Television.
6. Chandrakanta
Chandrakanta is an Indian fantasy story play. Broadcasting in Doordarshan in 1995. This story was directed by Sunil Agnihotri from the novel of Devaki Nandan Khatri. The director of the series sued Doordarshan TV in court in 1996. Shortly afterward, the series premiered on Sony and Star Plus TV.
Dekh Bhai Dekh is a Hindi situation comedy that premiered on the Doordarshan metro channel, in 1993. The series was created, developed, edited by Aanand Mahendroo and produced by Jaya Bachchan under Saraswati Audio Visuals Pvt Ltd banners.

Jaspal Bhatti came with a television serial 'Flop Show' for Doordarshan which became very popular and after that Jaspal Bhatti became known as a comedian rather than a cartoonist. Jaspal Bhatti's 'Flop Show' is a bridge of sweet memories that still smiles on our faces. The serial, which was a satire on socio-economic problems through various means of acting, was very popular in the 90s.
10. Nukkad
Nukkad is an Indian television series that aired on DD National in 1986–87. Nukkad Serial received a very good response from the audience. All the serial characters like Khopdi, Kader Bhai and Ghanshu Bhikari were all known by this name. Nukkad was one of those three TV series in the 80's, which was greatly appreciated by the audience.
11. Karamchand
Karamchand is a famous TV serial of the 80's. This serial made in 1985, which was possibly India's first detective stream, was broadcast on Doordarshan at a time when Indian audiences were unaware of satellite channels. Karamchand's role in the serial was done by Pankaj Kapoor and Kitty's character Sushmita Mukherjee. Another important role was with Inspector Khan who was played by Deepak Kazir. In the serial, Karamchand used to always show chewing carrots and at the end of almost every tale Kitty's dialogue was You're Really A Genius Sir! Whose karmangand responded by shouting Shut Up.
Shrimaan Shrimati is an Indian Hindi comedy serial. It first started broadcasting on Doordarshan from 1994-1999 then on SAB TVs. It was first broadcast in 1989.

Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne is a popular Hindi TV comedy serial directed by Prakash Jha. Raghubir Yadav, who is known for his different role in Bollywood today, played the role of Mungerri Lal and it revolves around Mungerri Lal's life. The serial was written by Manohar Shyam Joshi and was co-authored largely by Yerber's novel Secret Life of Walter Clay.
